Lift Passes:

Getting a definate price for a lift pass in Bulgaria can sometimes be a bit of a task. Recently it was ruled that selling lift passes at different prices to tourist was illegal, and the practice must stop. The Bulgarians got round this rule by simply giving a discount to regular customers. Whatever we may think of this, it should be borne in mind, that a weeks lift pass for us, is the equivalent price to almost two months wages to the average Bulgarian.

A lot of people who holiday on the slopes of Bulgaria ask the price of a lift pass.
There are many ways to get a lift pass. Firstly, and usually cheapest, is to purchase it from the package holiday company you book with. In most instances, the big operators get a discount which they then pass on to you. Secondly, get someone (preferably local) to buy it for you when you arrive in your resort. The amount of days is entirely up to you, but you will need to have a photograph for any pass over three days. If you require six days, then possibly two three day passes will suit your needs. Thirdly, buy your passes yourself at the ticket booths. The ticket booths are on of the few places we have come across that all seem to accept credit cards. It's just as well really as mum dad and two kids comes to over £300.

The prices quoted here are for the 2008/2009 season. We will update them as soon as we get the new prices.
This is by no means a complete list, more a guide as to what to expect to pay. For instance, expect to pay approximately 10% more in Bansko during peak times (Christmas new year) & 20% less after March.
The child price is for children up to 12 years old.
Lift passs containing a smart chip have a 5 Lev deposit on each card.

Something we really would advise, if you have the chance to buy your lift pass, along with any ski packs etc, buy them as you book your holiday. So many people find themselves paying full price for a ski pack and lift pass when they could have got it at a discount.
