transfer warning

Postby steve c on Fri Feb 05, 2010 3:59 pm

Just seen this posted on other side,

Hi, we just got back from bansko last night. I just want to warn anyone going out soon that the cheapest transfer option isn't the best. We booked through a company that acts as a booking agent - I am not sure if the rules of the forum allow me to post the name. Anyway the driver was half and hour late picking us up and he didn't put my suitcase in the boot with the rest, he instead reversed over the top of it and continued to drive on he wouldn't stop as he was running late and insisted that he had all the suitcases in the boot. At the time we didn't know it was mine or infact belonged to anyone on the bus as the driver said it was just rubbish that had been lying on the road when he got there, we didn't discover the truth until we arrived at sofia airport. Pretty foolish of us really too but we still can't understand why the suitcase wasn't put in along with the rest. The driver lost his ability to speak english when we discovered the case missing at the airport and drove off. So im pretty gutted to say the least. If anyone finds a suitcase lying outside Alex2 Apartments let me know

Ops!!!!!

That is outrageous !
Stupidity like that will ensure they have no repeat business, and will very likely lose others.
Short sighted at the very least !

We are staying at the Todora Towers and one of the Managers said the road Sofia was bad today and one of the transports got their passengers to the airport 1 hour after the flight departed. The airport was clear so presumably the flight left on time. Do transports carry insurance for this or is it responsibility of the passenger to then arrange another flight. Obviously if you are on a package tour it is the responsibility of the Tour Company.

Out house is on the south side of the Pirins and we had a small sprinkling of snow last night as well. This made journey a little slower today, about 1hour 20 instead of about an hour.

Apparently a metre of fresh snow overnight at the top. Maybe Dave can confirm.

Skiing was hard work today with snow being vey lumpy especially as it was our first ski of the season.

If we know the weather is going to be bad and the journey could take longer we ensure that we contact the customer to arrange earlier pick up. We can do no more and at the end of the day the customer can also see how the conditions are and use their own common sense to make sure they contact their driver to ensure they get there on time.
We have never missed a flight yet. There have been a couple of occasions where it has been close and that is with leaving a couple of hours earlier. I have a 0100hrs pick up tomorrow and its been snowing all day here. If i feel I need to leave earlier I will contact the customer(infact he rang me to ask what we thought-first time any customer has done that). He accepts we may leave earlier and is quite prepared to do this.

Wendy

Which route do you find is the best when the weather is bad and which route when good?

Our flight out next week is 6am so we will probably go straight up the E79 and round the ring road as hopefully it will be quite in the early hours of the morning.

The last few times we have had a 9-10am flight and the ring road has been a night mare so we have been going off the E79 an Dupnitsa and going in to Sofia via the Samacov route. This has been better apart from being caught for speeding on the outskirts of Dupnitsa.

Difficult one really Cathy, you can sometimes be lucky on the ringroad, there is only really one major hold up, at the roadworks on the junction of the Vitosha road, but on the other hand, it has taken me over an hour to get up from Dragichevo at the end of the E79 ???
Dupnitsa - Samakov is longer (about 25km), the road is rougher, and you can get held up in the valley coming down to Sofia past the lakes... Also in poor weather the road is treacherous through the valley...
Its worth leaving earlier to beat the trucks moving into Sofia (09.00am), but if you have a mid morning flight, you could have a bit of a wait... Either way, i'd hate to commit... sometimes even i cannot understand why its so quiet/busy ???

Just got back from Bg this am on the 6am flight.

Excellent journey of course as we set off at 2.15 am from Ilindenci ( south side of Pirin Mountains ).

We met precisely 8 cars on the route north on E79 to the airport.

We did get stopped by the police however, in Djerman. No problem he said he just wanted to see our driving license.

When he saw me diving over the back seat to rummage in the suitcase he said it was OK, and let us go.

We have had our license checked before and they are rather confused but all the folds on the old pink license and just give up!!!

Are we supposed to have a license with photo id on when travelling in Europe??

Next time out in we may have to try and get the registration changed on the car to a Bg one.

That will be fun!!

Any valid, full, European driving licence is ok. It doesn't have to be a new photocard one, but it may help.

Steve and Wendy may be able to help there?
